Leigh Jencoの編集になるこの本は、2011年12月に、シンガポール国立大学のアジア研究所で開かれた“Chinese Thought as Global Social Theory”シンポジウムを出発点にしている。中島隆博は“Grounding Normativity in Ritual: A Re-Reading of Confucian Texts”という章を担当し、「弱い規範」としての礼を再考した。本書は全体として、中国思想をいかにしてグローバル理論として読み直すかを考えたものであり、今日の中国における普遍論争などと比較してもおもしろいかもしれない。
