Abstract:
UT-IPI presents a Zoom presentation and discussion with translator Avi Staiman, moderated by Christopher Gerteis, on the practicalities of bringing a book from Japan to the world. Staiman and Gerteis will speak specifically to the trials and tribulations of finding a publisher; revising the manuscript in Japanese, and working on the English manuscript.

Finding a publisher
  • Preparing a compelling prospectus/sample chapter
  • Identifying potential book publishers for your manuscript
  • Writing a strong cover letter

Revising your manuscript in Japanese
  • Completing a cultural audit for the target audience
  • Cutting down on repetition common in Japanese writing

  • Revising your manuscript to ensure formatting is in line with publisher guidelines

Getting to work on your English manuscript
  • Finding the best translator for your research
  • Review and insert all primary sources already in English (or with existing English translations)
