【要旨 / Abstract】
2000年代初頭のカイロにおいて欧米型の教育を謳う私立学校は、国際的な労働市場で活躍する優れた人材育成を約束する、エジプトの繁栄と時代の最先端を象徴する存在として国内外で評価されてきた。ところがそうした学校においても、権威主義に基づく場当たり的な運営組織、社会格差を利用した雇用における搾取、金満主義に犯された教育者のモラルの低下は平然と存在する。本セミナーでは学校空間における日常的なやり取りを事例に、こうした私立学校の在り様を、「近代性」の交渉という視点から分析する。

Private “Foreign Diploma” Schools at the turn of the 21st century Cairo are the symbol of the prosperity and the cutting-edge technology enjoyed in Egypt. They are regarded to be the institutions that engineer Egyptian young generation into high-quality labors to the global market. However, it is hard not to notice the authoritarian, exploitive, and corruptive manners excised every corner of the schools. The presentation aims at analyzing such phenomenon as an expression of the particular social realities, namely a negotiation of “modernities,” instead of an irony or a contradiction of the modernization.
