【要旨 / Abstract】
16～18世紀、在華イエズス会士（中国に滞在したイエズス会宣教師）がヨーロッパへ送った中国に関する膨大な報告は、一部の東洋・中国趣味の者を魅了するにとどまらず、知識界全体の関心事として広範に流通した。では在華イエズス会士の報告は、中国のいかなる資料に依拠し、またそれらにどの程度忠実なのか。本発表では、この基本的かつ重要な問題の解明から出発し、同時代中国における思潮との連関を明らかにすると共に、いかなる資料からも逸脱した、つまり在華イエズス会士が独自に創作した部分にも注目し、そこに現れた主張とヨーロッパにおける思潮との関わりについても検討する。題材として、乾隆時代の清朝に仕え、特に多くの報告を送った在華イエズス会士アミオ（Jean Joseph Marie Amiot）の『孔子伝』を取り上げる。
From the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century, Jesuits sent Europe a number of reports on China. These reports not only fascinated a small group of sinophiles and orientalists, but also widely circulated as the issue of great concern for the Republic of Letters. My presentation will take the Vie de Confucius by the French Jesuit Jean-Joseph-Marie Amiot (1718–93) as an example, and will start with two very basic questions: (1) what kind of materials in China were these Jesuits’ reports based on and to what extent are these reports faithful to these materials? ; (2) to what extent did these reports deviate from any original materials, i.e., how did Jesuits show their own originality in the reports? I will address these questions and examine the influence of the seventeenth- and eighteenth-century Chinese and European thoughts on Jesuits’ reports.
