概要:
This presentation examines North Korean women’s interaction with other Asian women within network of anti-imperial women’s internationalism, focusing on – but not limited to – the Women’s International Democratic Federation (WIDF). Building on recent scholarly efforts to reassess the historical significance of the WIDF, including Suzy Kim’s (2023) groundbreaking studies of Park Cheong-ae’s participation in the federation and the WIDF’s delegation to North Korea during the Korean War, this talk extends the analysis by foregrounding Asian women’s organizational networks. Drawing on Chosun Women, the organizational magazine of the Korean Democratic Women’s Union (KDWU) founded and led by Park Choeng-ae, this presentation traces transnational women’s connections, particularly in the region of Asia in the early Cold War period and situates them within the emerging context of the Third World’s non-aligned movement. This study highlights the gendered dimensions of anti-imperialist and socialist nation-building from the perspective of women’s organizations.
