“Tips for Publishing English Books” is the theme of this year’s University of Tokyo International Publishing Initiative (UT-IPI) online symposium. If you are a faculty member or researcher of the University of Tokyo who is thinking of publishing a book in English, please join us.

15: 00-15: 45 Keynote Speech Professor Noburu Notomi (Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, The University of Tokyo)
15: 45-16: 15 Keynote Speech Joe Ng (Cambridge University Press)
16: 30-17: 30 Breakout session

There are three choices for a breakout session (all run in English):
1. Putting it into English. “How should I put my research into English?” This session will give you advice on how to write your research in English and the advantages and disadvantages of translating from Japanese.
2. Choosing a Publisher. “How should I choose a publishing company?” Since there are various university presses and academic publishing companies, it is unclear where to send book proposals and manuscripts. This session will provide specific advice from the editorial staff of leading publishers.
3. Open Access Publishing. “Is Open Access Publishing the Right Choice?” Open access publishing has become a hot topic in recent years, but many scholars still don’t understand it. We will explain and discuss publishing costs, copyright, academic reputation, impact effects, etc.

We will send further information on the symposium a few days in advance of the event to the mail address you provided during advance registration. Please check your spam folder in case the mailing with the link has been misdirected.

NOTE：
All sessions will be recorded and can be seen on the UT-IPI site after the symposium, but if you want to attend the question and answer time, you have to register for the session.
Participation is limited to academic and research staff currently working at the University of Tokyo. That is, it is limited to Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Lecturers, Project Academic Staff, Project Researchers, JSPS Post-Doctoral Fellows, Restart Post-Doctoral Fellows and Superlative and Post-Doctoral Fellows at the University of Tokyo.
Only those who register for the online symposium in advance will be permitted to participate. It is not possible to ask to join on the day of the symposium.
