Law and Society in Modern and Contemporary China

TAKAMIZAWA Osamu is Professor of Chinese
Law. He received his LL.B, LL.M and LL.D from the University
of Tokyo in 1982, 1984 and 1994, respectively. After serving
as Research Associate at the University of Tokyo (1993-1994)
and Associate Professor of Ritsumeikan University (1994-1997),
he became Associate Professor at the Institute in 1997.
His recent long-term stay in China was during 2013-2014
when he was invited as "Haiwai Mingshi"(in Chinese.Literal meaning is Famous Foreign Professor) at East China Universty of Political Science and Law.
Just after coming back to Japan, he became Director of the Institute.He finished his work as Director in March,2017.
His field of research covers disputes and dispute resolution in China, as well as sources of lawin China and modern Chinese legal history. He is especiallyinterested in similarities in the pre-modern and modern
in Chinese law.
