東文研セミナー 「The 'King of Islam': An Idea and Its Typological Significance (Said Amir Arjomand)」が開催されました

 班研究「ペルシア語文化圏研究」は，2014年7月16日（水），ニューヨーク州立大学ストーニーブルック校のサイード・アミール・アルジョマンド教授をお招きして東文研セミナーを開催した。アミール・アルジョマンド教授は，「比較社会学者」という自己規定にはとても収まり切らない多様な業績を挙げてこられた，イラン研究・イスラーム研究の世界では知らぬ人のない世界的な「泰斗」である。
 講演の主題は，概念史的なアプローチから，「イスラームの王」「イスラームのスルタン」という，11世紀頃から15世紀頃までのペルシア語文化圏を中心に広く用いられた王権概念を論じるものであった。7月12日に早稲田大学で行われた講演ではペルシア語文化圏に関する研究状況のレビューが呈示されたが，そこでは，ペルシア語文化圏を下支えした二つの重要な文化要素として，「ペルシア語の広がりと深い関わりを持つタイプのイスラーム教（Persianate Islam）」と「ペルシア語の広がりと深い関わりを持つタイプの王権概念（Persianate idea of kingship）」が強調されていた。この講演は，このうちの後者について，ペルシア語文化圏全体を見据えた広い視野から論じるものであったと言える。

Abstract：
The revival of the Persian idea of kingship in the tenth century posed a challenge to the Abbasid Caliphate. Al-Ghazali (d. 1111) coined the term, the ‘King of Islam’ (malik/pādshāh-i Islām) to associate Sultan Sanjar with Islam directly, bypassing the Caliph. The idea was transmitted to India by the conquering slave generals who created the Delhi Sultanate. In Iran itself, meanwhile, Ghazan Khan adopted the title of King of Islam upon his conversion in the last decade of the thirteenth century, thus grafting the Persian idea of kingship upon yet another type of Islamicate political regime: the Il-Khanid nomadic empire. The lecture is an essay in Begriffsgeschichte (conceptual history) of this important concept in the history of Islamicate political discourses.
