【題名 / Title】 末法における親鸞の希望 / Shinran’s Hope in the Age of Mappō
【要旨 / Abstract】
現代における希望に関する研究は、人間の行動力に着目したものが多い。２００５年に東京大学社会科学研究所で発足した希望学は、希望を「具体的な何かを行動によって実現しようとする願望」と定義する。しかし希望という概念は、人間の力の限界を感じた際に生まれる一種の肯定的な無力感を伴っている 。その点を強調したのが、浄土真宗の宗祖である親鸞である。人間の行動の無意味さを説き、阿弥陀の慈愛のみが衆生を救うと主張する彼の教えにも希望は存在する。 本発表は、教行信証における親鸞の自力と他力の比較に着目しながら、親鸞における他力の概念について論じる。
Many contemporary discourses on hope emphasize the power of human action. In 2005, a group of social scientists at the University of Tokyo established Hope Studies (希望学), and they defined hope as “a wish for something to come true by action.” However, hope also involves a positive sense of powerlessness that emerges from the limitation of human power. Shinran, the founder of Shin Buddhism, emphasizes that point, arguing instead that only the compassion of the Amida Buddha can save the sentient beings from suffering. Thus, Shinran’s teaching establishes that the faith in other-power (tariki 他力) is the only source of hope, rendering human action ineffective as a result. In this presentation, I will analyze the concept of other-power in Shinran’s teaching, particularly focusing on his comparison between self-power and other-power in the Kyōgyōshinshō.
