【題名 / Title】 　
新疆学の位置づけ
Situating Xinjiang Studies

【要旨 / Abstract】

本セミナーでは中国新疆ウイグル自治区に関わる研究の内容と位置づけを検討する。
この学問の背景は何なのか、中国学や中央アジア学とどのような重なりがあるのか、
「新疆学」を離散的学問として指名することにどのような長所と短所があるのか、と言う
問題を明らかにしたい。米国と日本からの新疆に関する研究を例にして、本セミナーでは
新疆学の境を解明し、この学問を前進させるためのアイデアも提供する。

This presentation probes the question of how to define and situate academic scholarship
connected to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, People’s Republic of China.
What is the history of the discipline, how does it overlap with Chinese Studies and Central
Asian Studies, and what are the strengths and weaknesses of identifying it as a unique area of study?
Looking in particular at scholarship about Xinjiang from the United States and Japan,
this talk aims to clarify the boundaries of the discipline and offer a series of proposals for
moving the discipline forward.
