1. I would like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Mr. Lee Myung Bak on his election as the next President of the Republic of Korea (ROK), and to express my best wishes for the further development of the ROK under his leadership.

2. Further development of the friendly and cooperative relations between Japan and the ROK is vital for the stability and prosperity of the region, as well as for the international community, and as such, I would like to cooperate closely with the incoming President.
