Concerning the fire on the underground railway that occurred in Daegu in the Republic of Korea on 18 February, Minister for Foreign Affairs Yoriko Kawaguchi has sent a message to Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Choi Sung-Hong.

"I feel deep sorrow for the loss of so many precious lives in the fire on the underground railway in Daegu. As Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, I express my sincere sympathies. I convey my sincere condolences to the families of those who were sacrificed in this sudden fire."
