Mr. Yohei Kono, Foreign Minister of Japan, and Mr. Paek Nam Sun, Foreign Minister of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, held talks on July 26 in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

1. Bearing in mind the recent positive development of the situation in the Korean Peninsula, both sides expressed their intention to settle the past and establish renewed good neighborly relations and friendship, and shared the view that they would exert their utmost efforts to realize their intention at an early stage.

2. As a part of these efforts, they reached the common recognition that they would strive in all sincerity for resolving various issues existing between Japan and North Korea in an appropriate manner.

3. Based on their common wish to improve bilateral ties, both sides decided to strengthen exchanges and increase visits in various fields to deepen mutual understanding and friendship.

4. Both sides decided to hold the 10th round of normalization talks from August 21 to 25 in Tokyo.
