Abstract:
This talk will describe an otherwise unexamined version of Hollywood\’s ubiquitous inter-racial buddy film, a sub-genre that I call the Orientalist buddy film. Movies in this category represent US race relations in triangular form, drawing a scenario in which two American men, one white and one black, transcend racial animus for one another by joining forces against an Asian, oftentimes Japanese, foreign menace.
