- Language: Japanese
- Entry: Not required
- Cosponsored by: Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia & ASNET
- Summary: The framework for my research on the study of Japonisme was forever changed by an exhibition at the Shanghai World Expo. As I relate this personal experience, I shall present the problematic aspects of cross-cultural studies’ narrative regarding influences exerted by “the East” on “the West”. While reporting on my current work, I also wish to signal the direction of future research for exploring the links between art history, politics, and society as illuminated by the creation of “things Japanese”.
