Research Topics


Dr. Hyun Sun Lee is an Associated Professor of the University of Tokyo. She received her DPhil.(Ph.D) and M.Phil. in sociology from the University of Oxford; and her B.A. in Sociology from Seoul National University. She previously worked as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School/Faculty of Arts and Letters, Tohoku University. While she was a doctoral candidate of University Oxford, she was also a visiting scholar at the Ristumeikan University. She is also a visiting scholar at Seoul National University. Dr. Lee’s main research interests lie in international migration, social welfare and civil society and also in people’s value systems and religion. She has conducted her long-term field research on the North Korean community of Japan.
